Termites

Scientific Name: Isoptera

Termites are often called the “silent destroyer” because they may be secretly hiding and thriving in your home or yard without any immediate signs of damage. All termites consume cellulose-based plant materials. Unfortunately, all homes, regardless of their construction type, can provide cellulose food for termite infestation.

Termites are one of the most costly pests. They are known to cause billions of dollars and more worth of damage each year. Their intricate way of living allows termites to silently devour the structural integrity of a building, allowing them to completely destroy a home in just two years if left undetected.

Mice and Rats

Scientific Name: Rodentia

Rodents make up the most numerous group of mammals, with 2277 species, accounting for 41% of the known mammals. They have become serious pests in all phases of food supply and to human health due to these close encounters with the food we eat and the places we live and work.

Rodents carry a wide range of disease-causing organisms, including many species of bacteria, viruses, protozoa and helminths (worms). They also act as vectors or reservoirs for many diseases via their ectoparasites such as fleas, ticks, lice and mites, as well as some diseases carried by mosquitoes. In fact, rodents are thought to be responsible for more deaths than all the wars over the last 1,000 years.

Ants

Scientific Name: Formicidae

Ants are generally more of a nuisance than a danger, though they can sting and a few can bite. Different species of ant sting with a range of chemicals, including formic acid, alkaloids and piperidines.

Ants can invade homes, other buildings, and gardens to forage for food and build nests. Out of the thousands of species of ant worldwide, there are only a few ant species that are regarded as pests in each country.

Bed Bugs

Species: Cimex lectularius

One of the most irritating bugs to raid your home or your commercial property and is definitely a huge burden on the people.  You can pick up bed bugs almost anywhere — offices, stores, hotels and gyms for starters. They’re great at hiding and have been known to hitchhike in luggage, personal belongings or even you. The number of bed bug infestations across the world had risen drastically in the last few decades. Bed bugs bite to feed on blood, often producing an itchy bump on the skin.

Mosquitoes

Scientific Name: Culicidae

Mosquito bites can produce itching, pain and swelling around the bite for several days. Generally it is the female mosquitoes which require a blood meal to survive, seeking animals and humans to feed on. A relatively small number of mosquitoes also transmit pathogenic viruses, bacteria and parasites that can produce serious illness in humans such as malaria and dengue fever

Birds, such as Pigeons, often live and breed in close proximity to man. Because of this, and the build-up of excrement they will create, they often cause considerable property damage, resulting in costly repairs and maintenance, spread of disease and cause other pest issues such as rats and cockroaches. The build-up of fouling also corrodes paint and can make walkways very slippery when wet.

Bird diseases, or avian diseases, can have a huge impact on a business, especially those within the food industry. The primary method for disease transmission by birds is through their fecal matter. Although in most cases the pathogens are found in small concentrations in their droppings, it is the build up of bird faces during large infestations that can result in an increased risk of exposure.
